Army Goodwill School at Hajan was inaugurated on 24 Aug 2005 by the then GOC CIF(K) Maj Gen Balhara. The then Member of Legislative Assembly, Mohd Yousuf Parray (alias Kukka Parray) was also instrumental in building the school in the initial stages. At the formative stage, the school was raised upto class V. The Army Goodwill School, Hajan was planned and constructed under Operation Sadbhavana of the Army. Presently it is functioning under the aegis of Headquarters 15 Corps, Headquarters CIF (K) and Headquarters 3 Sector Rashtriya Rifles. The school is located on the banks of the serene Jhelum River overlooked by mesmerising mountains and is seven kilometers from the township of Sumbal at an altitude of 4800 feet. The school campus with its 31 kanals & 09 marla of land offers a beautiful and calm atmosphere for the students for their overall development. In the past few years the school is gaining strength both in terms of its popularity and the quality of education being imparted. The school’s role has been increasing at a constant pace and today it boasts of being one of the top notch schools in the Bandipora District. 13 Rashstriya Rifles (KUMAON) has played a key role in building the school in the initial days and is continuing to be a motivating factor for the school’s development in each phase. Today the school has grown to a high school and has created a niche for itself in the Bandipora dist. The Principal along with the staff members are motivated and work tirelessly together for the overall development of the school focusing on the vision of the school. The prestigious Army Goodwill School meets the quintessential requirement of primary education in Sonawari Tehsil. It follows the State Board of Secondary Education (BOSE) academic session i.e. 01 April to 31 March with its syllabus structured on NCERT books, which provides comprehensive yet simple mode of learning to the valued students. The school today boasts of a strength of 502 students and 27 staff members in the diminutive Hajin Tehsil. The school promotes the concept of “Learn with Fun” and attempts to develop the overall personality of a student with a view to make him or her capable of making independent decisions in the times to come.
